Today's Top Ten Tuesday theme is Blogging Confessions.
- Sometimes I watch TV while I blog. That sounds bad but I'm actually a pretty good multitasker so I'm pretty efficient at getting a lot done. I work better when my document is open and I have time to process what I want to write as I'm working on something else.
- Conversely, I find it hard to stay focused sometimes so it takes me a long time to finish anything. I'll have multiple windows open and I bounce around a lot.
- I have made some pretty bad spelling/grammar errors in my blog posts (and in life). Funny story: I was once taking a grammar class where we had to identify parts of speech in our own writing and I discovered that I had written a sentence without a verb. Oops.)
- I am completely inept at design or style elements. Even if I'm just formatting normal stuff, I end up screwing up my posts. It's rough.
- I need to have my review document open when I read the book. I need to constantly be writing notes because I have a very poor memory for details and I need to write down all the character's names and note how I feel about them because my opinions change a lot throughout the book.
- I also need to write my review within 24-hours of finishing the book, for very similar reasons as the last.
- Sometimes I just need to talk it out. I work a lot better understanding myself verbally rather than internally or even written.
- I worry a lot that I'm not a very good writer! (But who doesn't every once in a while, right?)
- I used to just follow a lot of blogs for their giveaways (But I promise I'm better about reading now!)
- I don't know if this is a confession or not, but I really struggled with blogging during school and I would write almost all of my reviews during the summers when I was working. Now that I'm graduated, I have a lot of high hopes and expectations for this blog, so hopefully I can follow through!
I also need to write my reviews soon after I finish the book or I find it too difficult to be passionate about the book. I'm not a great writer, so I do worry that my blog isn't good enough. Great confessions!
ReplyDeleteI feel like the need to write reviews soon after is a relatively universal thing. I don't understand bloggers who can wait days or weeks!

Exactly! I think we just read so much that we have to put our thoughts down before the next set enters our brain!
DeleteI take notes while I read, too, although I do it on a paper notepad not a computer. If I don't take notes, I can't remember ANYTHING. That's what happens when you read too many books, I guess.

Sometimes I use a pen and paper when I'm reading "real" books, but when I read e-books it's mostly on the computer. I definitely have a bad memory and it's hard to keep track of details!
DeleteI always find grammar or spelling mistakes in my posts. I always feel so embarrassed, nice to know i'm not alone.

DeleteIt's definitely tough balancing school and blogging but doing reviews in the summer and setting up a schedule during the year always helped me.
I haven't watched TV while blogging but that sounds fun! I love multitasking with my TV watching.

ReplyDeleteI "follow" a lot of blogs for the giveaways, too. LOL! I figure that if they just want the PR of high numbers on their follower widget, then it's a fair exchange.
Sometimes I find some great blogs out of it, but sometimes I just realize that I never actually read what they write and I feel bad about that.

DeleteI guess the main reason I don't feel bad is that when I run my own giveaways, I never ask for follows or tweets . . . just for comments and participation in my meme. My annual giveaway is like a "local festival" for the people who already hang out at my place. I do a little bit of promotion on Twitter, but because I don't offer free entries or the usual stuff, new people who won't become regular readers don't enter. So when other bloggers let us enter just for following (and don't seem to care if we come back to read or not), I think we have a mutual understanding that it's all just a transaction. (I know I could be wrong, but I've yet to read a post in which someone complains that his 500+ followers aren't interacting with him!)
It's worth adding that it's not totally one-sided. When I follow on GFC, I still see their feeds and return when something that I do find interesting shows up.
I am so happy to know I am not the only one who has to write a review within 24 hours of reading a book.
