𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬: In the near future, most of the cities that we know have been submerged by water; people cluster on the diminishing land or try to eke out an existence on the water. Single mother Myra has lived with her daughter Pearl on a boat for the past seven years, trying to survive while also searching for Myra's first daughter, Row, who was stolen by her father during the major flood of their home in Nebraska. Myra and Row join up with strangers and a large ship in a search for a safe haven and for Row, even if those two goals may not coincide.
𝐏𝐥𝐨𝐭: Gave me major pirate vibes, love the post-apocalyptic background, lots of action yet the plot is still pretty character-centric
𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: Bleak, a little flowery but still readable
𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬: Myra is caught in her own grief, Pearl is just trying to connect with her mother; lots of realistic reflections about what is the "right" thing to do

👍𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐬:👍
-I was really digging those pirate vibes
-The mix of action + character development was A+
-Strong writing
-Bleakness but light amidst the dark (if you don't like bleak and dark novels, don't read this one)

👎𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬:👍
-Slightly slow start
-Mostly believable character choices, but a few were a little questionable...
